Celebrating
Our
83rd Season!
The Music Enrichment Program
For over 80 years, the Chatham Concert Band has provided free music for the citizens of Chatham-Kent.
Its members are volunteers who share a love of music with each other and the community.
We have supported the youth in our community for several decades through a free instrumental
music program and now, are excited to introduce a new Music Enrichment Program beginning in September, 2009.
This is a free after school extra-curricular program encouraging students in Grades 7 and 8, who show a
strong interest in the creative arts and have a willingness to work hard, to learn instrumental music.
No previous musical experience is necessary, but it is certainly welcome!
The classes will be held at the Kiwanis Band Shell in Tecumseh Park every Monday evening from 5:30-7:00pm
beginning on September 14th and will run the duration of the school year.
This Enrichment Program will provide instruction of the fundamentals of Band Music.
Students will learn proper breathing techniques, how to read music notation, techniques associated to
their assigned instruments, music theory and ear training skills. As this program is being offered to
all Public and Catholic elementary schools in the Municipality, it will provide a fun social environment
that promotes creative expression.
All instruments and music will be supplied by the Chatham Concert Band. That being said,
we are asking the residents of Chatham-Kent for help. If you have an old instrument in your
closet that isn’t being played or knows of someone who does, we would like you to consider donating
these instruments to this program.
It is important for our community to support this free music program in this time where programs
within the school systems are limited and our economy makes it increasingly difficult for many to
enroll their children in private lessons.
The Chatham Concert Band is proud and excited to provide a Music Enrichment Program for the youth of this community. We hope that it will be a catalyst for the growth of music in our city's schools.
